Can I Love Extremists?
So many people define their faith by what they believe about Donald Trump. How can godly Christians return to the gospel to get us back on track?
In this round table discussion episode, Chris is joined by Pastor Ray McDaniel of First Baptist Church in Jackson, WY, and Nick Staron to prepare us for the season.
Topics Discussed:
- What is Christianity?
- The importance of forgiveness and going to those who are angry with us
- Why is it important to cover things like the Watergate scandals of the 1970s in a Christian podcast?
- The need for humility in our lives
- The gospel in 10 words or less

So I found your podcast while listening to Promised Land and have not been disappointed. I’ve listened to season 5 and am current through season 6. Over the past several years (particularly post COVID), I’ve shifted away from the moniker “conservative evangelical” due to the church being so entwined with the religious right / republicans, which is what has drawn me to your show. I’ve read a bunch of books on the subject, including “The Myth of a Christian Nation” by Gregory A. Boyd, “Not in it to Win It” by Andy Stanley and “Jesus and John Wayne” by Kristin Kobes Du Mez (which is from a liberal perspective). We, The Church, must continue to work for His Kingdom and not any earthly kingdom. I like your thought of being gospel focused – keeping the main thing the main thing. My recent devotional reading has been in the gospel of John and I just read Jesus prayer in chapter 17 where he prays for our unity. He must have known we’d need help at this! A unified church can truly show the world who Christ is (v23).
Keep it up Chris!!
Sorry for the late reply! I’ve been juggling a lot lately and can’t seem to get the website to email me when a new comment is posted.
Thanks for your thoughts! I have been really convicted by re-reading the gospels and seeing how Jesus dealt with division and false teachers in His day. He was clear, honest, and loving. I hope that the show can draw people to that mission. We just have to keep reminding ourselves what the gospel is and what it is not. One of my concerns of our modern era is that Christians who have been convicted by the shadiness of our fellow believers will drop out of doing God’s work. We can’t do that! We have to keep belonging to churches, serving our neighbors, and calling our sisters and brothers to follow Jesus. Not always easy to do!
Thanks for the word of encouragement!
Dear Truce, I love this show and want to share it with a deaf friend who needs the whole transcript. How might this happen? Thank you so much for all your time and energy that you put into this. I want to support you via check. What is your mailing address?
Thanks! Unfortunately, since this show is a one-man operation and my schedule is crazy busy, I can’t afford to make transcripts of every episode. But Apple Podcasts now has a built-in feature where you can see an AI generated transcript right in the app.
